BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Dimitrios Argyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, a multi-disciplinary school – Ireland’s premier agri-food related research entity with excellent networks into the agri-food industry. He is currently the UCD Programme Director of the MSc Digital Agriculture. Prior to joining UCD, he has held the post of Scientific Coordinator in the Research Centre for Bioeconomy, a central inter-faculty research network of the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart (Germany). He holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering, and an MSc in Environmental Protection & Agricultural Food Production, both from the University of Hohenheim and a BSc in Biosystems Engineering from the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly (Greece). Dr Argyropoulos research interests include sustainable agri-food value chains, automation and digitization. He has a particular interest in the application of IoT and sensor technology to enhance the operational efficiency of circular agri-food systems, from on-farm operations right through to the consumer. He is currently leading the Horizon Europe Watson project on food fraud prevention through digital and intelligence-based technologies with 44 partners across Europe. He has participated in more than 20 European research and innovation projects (10 ongoing) in the digitization of the agri-food sector including Horizon Europe (Farmtopia, GOOD, EU4Advise); Horizon 2020 (SMARTCHAIN); ICT-AGRI-FOOD (Oenotrace, SpectroFood, Mushnomics); ICT-AGRI-2 ERA-NET (iFAROS); Erasmus+ (Foster-xR & POEASE); EIT-FOOD with industry and academic partners in Europe. He is advisory board member of the H2020 DIVA project on innovative digitech value chains for agri-food, forestry & environment; member of VDI’s Technical Division Max Eyth Society for Agricultural Engineering; and associate editor (Machinery Systems) of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).
